Join Sam Barrett for a night of deep and mindful stretching to release knots and tension in the fascia. It is said that fascia is the tissue of consciousness. It acts as a second nervous system and forms a three dimensional matrix of structural support in the body. Fascia interpenetrates every muscle fiber, bone, nerve, blood vessel, and internal organ. Anything from injury, emotional trauma, sitting a lot or rounding our shoulders can tighten the fascia, creating blockages and tension. In this workshop we will compress certain areas of the body to aid the fascia in releasing while increasing lubrication in order to create more flexibility and mobility. We will combine myofascial release exercises with guided and silent meditation practices to support the free flow of prana (life force energy) or chi in the body.
This 2 hour workshop includes:
- a short talk on the connection between fascia, yoga, + the breath
- myofascial release exercises: with props + without props
- how to make your own myofascial tool (that you will get to keep!)
- a simple guided meditation to incorporate into your home practice
- an opportunity for silent meditation
