We are held by the darkness…not in a way that limits us but in a way that LIBERATES us. We are held by the darkness in the same way the waves are held by the ocean. We are held in the darkness the same way a babe is held by her mother’s womb.

We fear what we can’t see. We avoid the darkness just as we avoid parts of the soul. An essential aspect of the human experience is embracing this darkness so that we don’t have to fear it. We can open ourselves instead to its depth, to its wholeness, to its mystery. Let yourself soften. Let yourself be held. Let yourself feel without analyzing. We don’t have to fear the darkness anymore. The light is held by the darkness. We are held by the darkness.

Invite yourself to spend time in darkness:
-in meditation with eyes closed
-step outdoors at night and look UP
-use an eye pillow in savasana
-camp outside for a night
-welcome your shadow emotions with compassion
-understand that there is no light without darkness
-contemplate the vastness of the universe

I included a picture that I took last weekend up at our mountain cabin. There is very little light pollution around and we walked outside when it stopped snowing to see how the snow rested on the branches of the trees pulling them closer to the earth. The stillness and silence was profound.
